General Description

The Maintenance Staff person is responsible for supporting the General Manager in the upkeep of the Clubhouse, waterfront, and grounds.  The Maintenance Staff person is paid an hourly rate and works about 24 - 36 hours per week during the 8-week lesson period.  The Maintenance Staff person also works in the pre and post-season as needed, averaging 12 - 24 hours per week.  In addition:

  • The Maintenance Staff person must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and special events. 
  • The Maintenance Staff person is expected to be available to work daily during the 8-week lesson period, and vacations during this time period are NOT permitted. 
  • The Maintenance Staff person MUST also be available to work during the Fourth of July and Labor Day celebrations, assuming he/she has not returned to college.

As a member of the WBC staff, the Maintenance Staff person should exemplify integrity and the key characteristics we expect of our employees:  Commitment, Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation. While on duty, the Maintenance Staff person must wear the uniform specified by the General Manager (name badge, staff T-shirt or collared shirt when appropriate, khaki shorts or pants).

Qualifications

The Maintenance Staff person must be at least 18 years of age as of August 31 and a high school graduate.

Reporting/Management Relationships

The Maintenance Staff person works closely with the Winter Manager and Summer Managers, working under the direction of the General Manager with input by the House and Grounds Director.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of the Maintenance staff include:

  • Cleaning all public areas inside the Club, including the bathrooms, locker rooms, office, lobby, second floor lounge, second floor kitchen, etc.
  • Maintaining the facilities, including the lawn, docks, rowboats, mooring area, parking lot, pool deck, and snack bar deck.
  • Assisting in the set-up, breakdown, and clean up of special events.
  • Making light repairs to Club equipment.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the security of the Club and the safety of the members.
  • Parking lot monitoring during lesson drop-offs and pick-ups.
  • Unlocking the rowboats and setting up the motorboats when there are not early morning sailing lessons.
  • Helping maintain radio contact with our staff and the race committee when they are out on the lake in the motorboat.
  • Other:
    • May be asked to complete other tasks at the discretion of the General Manager or the Summer Managers.
