General Description

The Assistant Swim Team Coach is responsible for assisting the Swim Team Coach with the overall operations of the WBC Swim Team. The Assistant Swim Team Coach (Assistant Coach) is a part time (approximately 25 hours per week) summer employee, paid an hourly rate. As an hourly employee, the Assistant Coach is required to submit a weekly timecard to the General Manager for approval and all overtime needs to be approved in advance.

As with all of WBC program staff, the Assistant Swim Team Coach should be a role model for participants on the Swim Team, exemplifying integrity and the key characteristics we expect of our employees: Commitment, Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation. In addition, the Assistant Swim Team Coach should be a role model for sportsmanship and team spirit to participants on the swim team.

While on duty, the Assistant Swim Team Coach should wear the swim suit and uniform specified by the General Manager. When representing the Club at swim meets and club meetings, the Assistant Coach should wear the uniform specified by the GM (collared shirt, khakis).

Qualifications & Certifications

The Assistant Swim Team Coach must be certified in Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and preferably in Red Cross certified Water Safety Instruction (WSI). Must be at least 18 years of age. Prior WBC work experience is preferred and competitive swimming experience is strongly preferred.

Reporting/Management Relationships

The Assistant Swim Team Coach reports to the Swim Team Coach, working under the direction of the General Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities of the Assistant Swim Team Coach will be defined by the Swim Team Coach, working under the supervision of the GM. The Swim Team Coach will organize a pre-season meeting with the GM to review specific responsibilities with the Assistant Coach.

  • The Assistant Swim Team Coach will assist with the weekly practices and swim meets:
    • Swim practices/schedule:
      • 8 am-9am - older swimmers
      • 9 am-9:30 am - younger swimmers
      • 9:30am -11:30 am - administration/meet & event planning
      • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm - swim practice
    • Swim meets - weekly, typically on Wednesday.
    • Relay meet at season open, Championships at season end
  • Responsibilities may include:
    • Assist with practices in a defined capacity
    • Assist with meets in a defined capacity, such as:
      • Creating lineups
      • Processing/distributing ribbons
      • Recruiting/organizing volunteers
      • Assisting with swimmer logistics at meets
    • Assist coach with other duties
