Summer Manager Application


General Description

The Summer Manager staff person is responsible for supporting the WBC Management in the oversight of Club operations. The Summer Manager staff person is an hourly employee working on a contract basis while the Club is open from Opening Day through Labor Day and in the pre- and post-season as needed. As a member of the WBC staff, the Summer Manager staff person should exemplify integrity and the key characteristics we expect of our employees: Commitment, Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation.

While on duty, the Summer Manager staff person must wear the uniform specified by the WBC Management (name badge, collared shirt, khaki shorts or pants).

Qualifications

The Summer Manager staff person must be at least 25 years of age in the year of employment.

Reporting/Management Relationships

The Summer Manager staff person works closely with the Winter Manager, working under the direction of the WBC Management with input by the House and Grounds Director. The Summer Manager staff person may assist in the oversight of various programs or staff as designated by the WBC Management and the Program Directors.

Certifications

The Summer Manager staff person may need to be certified in ServSafe Food Sanitation, CPO (Certified Pool Operator) and CPR/AED as determined by the WBC Management and the Board of Directors. The Club will reimburse the Summer Manager staff person for the costs associated with receiving these certifications.

Primary Responsibilities
  • The WBC Managers will determine the scheduling of all Summer Manager hours
    • The Summer Manager staff person will have morning, afternoon, evening, weekday and weekend shift responsibilities in pre-season, full season, and post-season
    • Full time hours (approximately 24-36 hours per week) will begin at the close of the Winchester Public Schools
    • Pre-season and post-season hours average 6-24 hours per week
    • Any extended vacation scheduled during the 8-week lesson period requires prior approval from the WBC Management and the House and Grounds Director
    • The Summer Manager staff person must be available to work during the Fourth of July and Labor Day celebrations
  • Follow through on Winter Manager projects under the direction of the WBC Management in the Pre-Season (Opening Work Day through Memorial Day)
  • Follow through on Winter Manager projects under the direction of the WBC Management in the Post-Season (Labor Day through Closing Work Day)
  • The Summer Managers and the WBC Management will rotate shifts to oversee the management responsibilities of the WBC. In the absence of the WBC Management, the Summer Manager staff person on duty will:
    • Manage office staff, maintenance staff and other staff in season
    • Monitor lesson programs on a daily basis
    • Handle questions and concerns of the Club’s general membership
    • Be aware of upcoming calendar events and coordinate with respective programming staff
    • Work events, to include setup, monitoring, serving of drinks and food if needed, and breakdown/clean up
    • Follow and complete daily projects listed by the WBC Management and/or the Winter Manager
    • Oversee the Maintenance staff to ensure the cleanliness of the facility
    • Make light repairs to Club equipment
    • Assist in the maintaining of the building, pool, grounds, harbor, motorboats, rowboats and docks
    • Monitor the safety and security of the Club through opening and closing procedures and enforcement of rules and regulations
    • Send staff home or put them on call in cases of inclement weather
  • Assist with snack bar and pool operations

  • WBC Vacation Policy: All Staff may request up to 10 days of unpaid time-off. See below regarding specific department policies.
    • Junior Staff in all Departments and Senior Staff in the Office & Maintenance may request up to 10 days off for any and all purposes. All time off should be submitted as soon as possible, preferably prior to the season start, and must be approved by the department manager for the respective department.
    • Junior Staff is expected to be available during the last two weeks of the season when college students are returning to school.
    • Sailing Instructors, Swim Team Coaches and Senior Guards/Instructors (WSI lifeguards, Swim Team, US Sailing Certified Sailing instructors, etc.) are generally not allowed time-off requests during the program period. It is important that during the program season (generally end of June to early August), the Club is able to provide its members with consistent training programs. Any exceptions to this policy will be at the discretion of the Safety and Program Manager and the Executive Director.

Interviews are a requirement of the hiring process for all positions. Prior to returning to school after winter break, college students must apply and be interviewed in person in order to be considered for a position. High School students will be hired in February and March.
