Junior Office Staff Application


General Description

The Junior Office Staff person is responsible for supporting the WBC Management in the running of the Club office. The Junior Office Staff person is paid an hourly rate and works about 16-30 hours per week during the 8-week lesson period. The Junior Office Staff person also works in the pre- and post-season as needed, averaging 12-24 hours per week. In addition:

  • The Junior Office Staff person must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays, weekends and special events
  • The Junior Office Staff person is expected to be available to work daily during the 8-week lesson period. Vacation time during this period is at the discretion of the WBC Management (see job application below for WBC Vacation Policy)
  • The Junior Office Staff person must also be available to work during the Fourth of July and Labor Day celebrations

As a member of the WBC staff, the Junior Office Staff person should exemplify integrity and the key characteristics we expect of our employees: Commitment, Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation. While on duty, the Junior Office Staff person must wear the uniform specified by the WBC Management (name badge, collared shirt, khaki shorts or pants).

Qualifications

The Junior Office Staff person must be at least 16 years of age as of August 31 and completed sophomore year of high school. Exceptions may be made to these requirements at the discretion of the WBC Management and the House and Grounds Director.

Reporting/Management Relationships

The Junior Office Staff person works closely with the full-time Office Staff, Winter Manager, Summer Managers, Snack Bar Manager, and Program Directors, working under the direction of the WBC Management with input by the House and Grounds Director.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain membership program records and accounts
  • Answer questions, relay messages, maintain reservation lists, and general coordination of Club activities
  • Review Snack Bar order slips daily and make any necessary corrections
  • Assign Guest Badges
  • Maintain and organize program forms
  • Check in/out games
  • Process sale of WBC clothing and other merchandise
  • Organize and process mooring/locker requests
  • Prepare and process mailings
  • Assist WBC Management and others as needed with weekly email newsletters
  • Prepare and monitor Club bulletin board postings
  • Monitor security of the Club, and (via radio) sailing program and race committee activities on the lake
  • Assist WBC Board member with small projects
  • May be asked to complete other tasks at the discretion of the WBC Management or the Summer Managers

  • WBC Vacation Policy: All Staff may request up to 10 days of unpaid time-off. See below regarding specific department policies.
    • Junior Staff in all Departments and Senior Staff in the Office & Maintenance may request up to 10 days off for any and all purposes. All time off should be submitted as soon as possible, preferably prior to the season start, and must be approved by the department manager for the respective department.
    • Junior Staff is expected to be available during the last two weeks of the season when college students are returning to school.
    • Sailing Instructors, Swim Team Coaches and Senior Guards/Instructors (WSI lifeguards, Swim Team, US Sailing Certified Sailing instructors, etc.) are generally not allowed time-off requests during the program period. It is important that during the program season (generally end of June to early August), the Club is able to provide its members with consistent training programs. Any exceptions to this policy will be at the discretion of the Safety and Program Manager and the Executive Director.

Interviews are a requirement of the hiring process for all positions. Prior to returning to school after winter break, college students must apply and be interviewed in person in order to be considered for a position. High School students will be hired in February and March.
